So what are the benefits of outside exercise? And how can you ensure that you are doing it properly? We have all the answers for you, keep on reading to learn how moving your body along with the forces of nature will heal you and help you to live a healthier life.

Outside Exercise

Vitamin D is an essential vitamin that helps to lift your mood, aids in brain function, digestion, prevent memory loss, and more. Foods such as salmon, egg yolks, almonds, and oranges are high in Vitamin D, but if you do not eat those foods, you could be dangerously low.

According to research, 90% of our Vitamin D intake is absorbed through our skin via sunlight. This is why Vitamin D is called “the sunshine vitamin”.  The more outside exercise you do, the more Vitamin D you will absorb.

Outside Exercise

Sure, working out in the gym can help you to release some tension. However, nothing will work as well as using mother nature’s gym. As you move about outdoors, take in the abundance of beauty that surrounds you on every step. Listen to the sounds of nature and pay attention to how much your body starts to relax when you hit the hiking trails instead of the treadmill. There is no Wifi in the forest, but we promise you that you will find a better connection, and that is with yourself.

Outside Exercise

There is nothing better than a lung-full of fresh, energizing, clean air. Trees are the strongest air purifiers on the planet, they remove pollution from the air, making the air we breathe in, more pure and clean. According to a study by the Journal of Environmental Pollution, the presence of trees saved over 850 lives and prevented 670 000 cases of acute respiratory illnesses. Doing yoga outdoors can have a tremendous impact on your overall lung health because of the focus of deep breathing and connection to yourself.

Outside Exercise

Working out in a gym can feel repetitive and boring after a while. Gym exercises are mostly in a linear fashion and focus more on image than health, which can cause a toxic body-image mindset. Outside exercise constantly challenges you with different terrains, environment changes, obstacles to step over, steep inclines, declines, and more. Your body will feel more functionally fit than any indoor workout could ever offer you.

Outside Exercise

There you have it! The simple change of moving to outside exercise will improve your physical, mental, and spiritual health in a profound way. If you are ready to connect with mother nature, detox your mind and body, and live the healthiest life possible, feel free to contact us at any time.

Meditation is no longer a strange and mysterious practice, reserved for robed spiritual adepts in far-flung Eastern monasteries. We know what it is, we know it can help us, it’s free, it’s accessible, its benefits are evidence-based. We also know it offers lasting results for our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. It’s a lifestyle change that requires no special equipment or clothing, no expensive training, and you don’t need to subscribe to any particular spiritual beliefs to benefit from it. It’s a natural approach to wellness with no side-effects or downsides.

So why do so few of us commit to its practice?

Meditation Beginners

An old Zen proverb says: “You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes every day—unless you’re too busy; then you should sit for an hour.” Most of us lead busy lives with many expectations placed upon us—work, family, study and social commitments quickly fill up our schedules, leaving us feeling like we don’t have room for anything else. Trying to find time for a new practice or activity can seem overwhelming and unnecessary.

But consider this: Whenever we say we’re too busy, what we’re really saying is: This isn’t a priority for me. We always make time for activities and people that are important to us, and the good news is, you don’t actually need to sit for an hour to reap the benefits. Beyond that, meditation may give you back more time than it costs you! Regular practice helps you feel more calm, organised and clear-headed, meaning your other daily activities could be performed more efficiently, facilitating a more balanced approach to life.

Meditation Beginners

Research has shown the numerous benefits of meditation. It is excellent for your mental health, reducing stress, depression and anxiety, and improving self-esteem. Meditation gives you better focus and may reduce age-related memory loss while also facilitating good sleep.

It can also improve your relationships, and social wellbeing, with studies indicating  regular practice can increase kindness, compassion and emotional regulation. There is even evidence that it’s effective for physical ailments, beneficial for reducing pain and blood pressure and contributing to improvements in the immune and cardiovascular systems.

Meditation Beginners

“What is the best meditation technique for me?” The simple answer: The one you’ll do regularly. There’s no point promising yourself a one-hour daily sit if you’re likely to give it up within a few days. The best strategy is to start with something you know you’ll enjoy and make time for. There are many ways to meditate, so choose one that fits with your personality and lifestyle. And who knows, maybe you’ll love it so much that this time next year, you’ll be doing that daily one-hour sit!

Meditation Beginners

Moderation is key, and even ten minutes a day will bring noticeable changes in your life. It can be helpful to designate a space for your daily meditation, incorporating items that make you feel calm and relaxed such as art, a small statue, or a plant. Consider all your senses—essential oils, music and a comfortable cushion can help you relax fully into the experience. Make this time pleasant and enjoyable. First thing in the morning is usually best for focus, and you can reap the benefits all day.

If sitting doesn’t appeal to you, you’ll be pleased to know you there are other ways to meditate. Consider trying a walking meditation, or using some simple yoga poses. If you choose to lie down, make sure you don’t fall asleep! It’s not recommended to meditate in bed—instead, lie on a yoga mat in your meditation space, or on a blanket outside.

Meditation Beginners

This is a hurdle that trips many people up. “I tried meditating once, but my thoughts kept coming in, and I couldn’t do it, so I quit.” For some meditators, this is the goal—to be able to empty the mind of all distractions. It is not something you’re expected to do from the get-go, and it’s not the only way to meditate. Even if you spend ten minutes noticing your thoughts and choosing to let them go, over and over, even if that is ALL you seem to be doing, you’ve just undertaken an effective meditation. Noticing your thoughts and letting them go IS your practice, particularly if you do so lightly and with humour, rather than frustration, irritation and judgement.

Meditation Beginners

If focusing on ‘nothing’ is a bit abstract for you, choose something else. You can observe your breath, repeat a mantra, watch a flickering candle, or even focus on some meditative music. It’s all about choosing to concentrate your attention and practising  conscious control. You can try a mantra, word or phrase that has meaning for you or choose a sound with the right feeling or vibration. If you’re not sure where to begin, ‘Om’ has been serving meditators for thousands of years. If you don’t want to say it yourself, you can enjoy a chorus of monks chanting it for you on YouTube. Experiment by giving attention to parts of the body, such as the heart or crown of the head, while you repeat your mantra.

Much like learning a new language, there are benefits to immersing yourself fully in an experience. At Visit Natural Detox, we make meditation easy by providing a total mind, body and spirit approach to re-centring your energy and health. You’ll be supported in your practice with our resort’s beautiful surroundings, healing daily activities and nutritious food. Contact us today to see how we can help you transform your life.

Maybe the trigger is chowing down on nothing but salads or hearing your alarm going off before your sunrise yoga class, but whatever it is, you feel desperate, hungry, and tired. You have cravings that you can’t stop thinking about. Sometimes, you give in— you order a cheeseburger and a calorific cocktail, you choose to sleep in and watch TV all day. The following day you feel guilty like you’ve completely failed all your ambitious health and wellness goals. So you throw in the towel.

On Instagram, wellness bloggers present seemingly perfect lifestyles that can make us feel like we’ll never measure up. But progress, not perfection, is the real goal. We are all just human, after all, and those social media influencers have to pose a certain way for their bodies to look like that. You better believe they’ve filtered and enhanced the colours of their acai bowls and the sunrise behind it. Imperfection, indulgence, and fun are an essential part of a happy and healthy lifestyle and can help you achieve more lasting results.

Lifestyle Changes

Accepting slip-ups is an integral part of self-acceptance, and self-acceptance is a necessary part of holistic wellness. Taking a balanced approach to lifestyle change means eschewing an all-or-nothing attitude. If you see your goals as black or white, your motivation can become inconsistent. You may start to feel discouraged after a rough day or two, which can affect your willingness to stay the course because you already think that you’ve failed.

A natural approach to wellness means allowing for frustrating days ahead and recognising them as part of the process. In fact, having a tough time or a lapse without giving up on your overall lifestyle change can, in the long-term, strengthen your commitment to the ultimate goal.

It can also help to realise, that while sometimes you will make mistakes, you can keep moderation in mind and still satisfy your biscuit craving without chowing down an entire pack of Oreos. Instead, maybe you choose to split a packet among a few friends with some coffee, bake a healthier version at home, or search for a whole foods-based alternative, such as the vegan brownie offered by Wild Tribe Super Food Cafe.

Lifestyle Changes

For evidence that cheat meals can be a part of even a professionally fit person’s lifestyle, look no further than The Rock’s Instagram account. If his chiselled physique sitting in front of giant stacks of peanut butter pancakes isn’t enough to convince you, there is science that supports adding cheat days or cheat meals into your diet.

Weight loss will lower levels of the hormone leptin, which is stored in fat cells. Leptin helps the body maintain its weight by regulating long-term food intake and energy expenditure. So when the levels fall, you can experience increases in appetite and cravings. Research has indicated that temporarily upping your calorie intake can increase your leptin levels by up to 30% for 24 hours following a cheat meal.

A 2018 study separated obese men into two groups and put them on restrictive diets for four months. The first group stayed on a restrictive plan for the entirety of the study, while the second group was allowed intermittent breaks from the diet. Surprisingly, the latter group not only lost more weight during the trial but also gained back less weight afterwards.

When it comes to natural detox, the famous adage by Hippocrates is often cited: “Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food.” So by choosing good healthy food, you can help heal your physical body, but it can also have mental health benefits.

Lifestyle Changes

Nobody wants to feel deprived. Integrating some occasional indulgences into your lifestyle change will not only lead to a healthier body—that framework may actually let you enjoy those treats even more because you can enjoy them guilt-free.

Balancing your mind, body, and spirit is a delicate dance. Sometimes you need to take time away for a natural detox with assistance from supportive professionals. Sometimes life’s responsibilities won’t allow it. In those moments, all we can do is try our best to treat ourselves with kindness—in our bodies with diet and exercise, as well as our minds with acceptance and relaxation.

The bottom line is, we benefit more from listening to what our bodies tell us they need than we do from crossing items off a to-do (or don’t) list. Even the most disciplined among us can’t perfectly envision what an “achieved” goal will actually look like. As Disney’s Dory would say “Just keep swimming,” and you will get there eventually.

We all know the gastrointestinal system is incredibly important to human health. The GI tract shuttles food from the mouth to the stomach, absorbs energy and nutrients from food, and transports waste out of the body. It’s relatively simple, right?

Without proper nourishment, we don’t survive. But in recent years, Western science has been catching up with ancient medicine (and the “you are what you eat” warnings of mothers throughout history). It is starting to realise that the GI system affects even more of our physical, mental, and emotional health than previously understood.

Gut Health

When people talk about gut health, they’re talking about the human gastrointestinal microbiota, gut flora, or most commonly, the gut microbiome. The gut microbiome refers to the billions of microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and fungi present in the gastrointestinal tract. This microscopic ecosystem of organisms has been linked to numerous aspects of health that may be seemingly unrelated to digestion, including the condition of the immune system, emotional stress, and chronic illnesses like Type 2 diabetes and cancer. Gut health has even been linked to neurological conditions, such as schizophrenia and dementia.

The composition of gut microbiomes varies from person to person, but for everyone, a wide diversity of organisms is a good thing. In general, people  have about 300 to 500 different species of bacteria in their GI tract. A wider variety is linked to a stronger immune system, emotional resilience, and healthy weight regulation. Less healthy people carry much less diversity and usually a disproportionate amount of bacteria associated with certain diseases. An overabundance of specific types of bacteria is linked to an enhanced risk of asthma, allergies, cancer, and chronic illnesses like heart disease and multiple sclerosis.

Gut Health

Gut microbiomes can change quickly depending on the food a person does, or doesn’t, eat. Poor gut health can manifest itself in multiple ways. Stomach disturbances like constipation, abdominal pain, gas, bloating, diarrhoea, and heartburn indicate an imbalance in the gut microbiome. Fluctuating weight, autoimmune disorders, sleep disturbances, fatigue, skin conditions like eczema, and even food allergies may also be signs of a gut in need of attention.

Research suggests that though animal protein — such as meat, dairy, and eggs — may offer many health benefits, high levels of animal protein consumption is associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that reflects poor gut health. Studies on mice have shown that switching from a Mediterranean diet, rich in fibre and antioxidants, to a Western diet heavy in protein and fat can alter the microbiome’s composition within a day. Red meat may be especially unhelpful, as it raises levels of trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), which has been linked to increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

High sugar diets take less than a week to decrease microbiome diversity, which has been associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and diabetes. Antibiotics (which are present even in certain foods) and antibacterial soaps have also been found to disrupt not only gut flora but microflora of all parts of the human body, making the body more susceptible to illness or disease. High stress levels and lack of exercise also contribute to poor gut health.

Gut Health

Most people have vices that contribute to less-than-optimal gut health, but there are ways to strengthen and restore balance to the gut microbiome.

Foods that reinforce a healthy digestive system include fermented, probiotic-rich foods, such as kimchi, apple cider vinegar, sauerkraut, and kefir yoghurt. Probiotic supplements may help restore the overall composition of the gut microbiota, especially in unhealthy people. Legumes, beans, and fruits are also helpful, though it’s important to be mindful of sugar levels, even from fruit. Most people don’t meet the recommended daily fibre intake, but studies indicate that high fibre levels are essential to maintaining a healthy gut. Whole grains are a great source of fibre and non-digestible carbohydrates. Exercising regularly, decreasing stress levels, and having good and regular sleep are other important factors for a balanced approach in regulating gut health. Even simple efforts like staying mindful of hydration can help restore a healthy balance.

Revitalisation programmes may help jumpstart gut microbiome realignment to mark the beginning of a new, healthier lifestyle. It aims to help participants clean the intestinal tract, reduce ageing due to free radicals, regulate blood sugar, and boost the immune system. “If you are tired of starting over, stop giving up.” There are numerous ways to achieve weight loss, and many of us have been on a cycle of trying it all—the latest fad diet, joining the newest exercise craze and purchasing products from infomercials that claim to make us lose weight fast. When the promised quick results don’t happen, we give up. And then, we start the cycle over again with the latest diet plan and workout. Exhausted yet? There has been a real concern over the last decade about weight management. Obesity is now considered a worldwide epidemic, that if not managed, will see 18% of men and over 21% of women reach the obesity level globally by 2025. These stats are scary!

To tackle this global issue, we need to take a new approach to weight loss. Let’s break the diet and exercise chain we’ve been on and work towards making healthier, sustainable changes to losing excess body fat and keeping it off. Join our mind and body weight loss and natural detox retreats and let us help you learn the tools and behaviours to transform your habits and body with a lasting and balanced approach.

Weight Loss

When it comes to losing weight the healthy way, it’s all about output versus input. Input is what you put into your body—what you eat and drink. Output is the energy you burn via physical activity and exercise. If there is more input than output, it will lead to weight gain. If there is more output than input, excess weight can be burned. To achieve weight loss, you need to eat better and exercise more. Once your ideal weight is achieved, it’s then about finding a balanced approach to weight management.

When considering energy input, it helps to look at the energy density of your diet. Energy density refers to the amount of energy or calories per gram in the food you eat. Foods with lower energy density will have fewer calories per gram and foods with higher energy density will have more calories per gram. Low energy density foods include raw foods such as fruits and vegetables, high fibre foods like whole grains and potatoes, unprocessed foods, and foods high in protein and low in fat. High energy density foods are high in fat and include pastries, crisps, and confectionery.

Once you learn the right foods to eat, eating mindfully with a natural approach will become easier. Incorporating a fitness regime with your new lifestyle will help you lose weight in a healthy and sustainable way.

Weight Loss

To lose weight, you need to burn more calories through physical activity than you take in. This is known as setting up a caloric deficit. When you are moving your body, it burns calories to fuel your activity. However, it doesn’t stop here as after your body stops moving, it continues burning calories. A consistent fitness regime helps you to lose weight. Your body burns the most calories through at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise daily. Aerobic activities include walking, running, swimming, or cycling. Experts also recommend strength training at least twice a week.

Even the activities you do on a daily basis like grocery shopping, gardening, taking the stairs at work and housework are helping to burn calories. Any kind of movement is effective for burning calories and losing weight, some surprisingly more so than others. For example, one hour of light gardening or yard work can burn more calories than one hour of cycling.

Weight Loss

Losing weight requires commitment and time. Creating simple habits with changes to your food choices and lifestyle will help with your weight loss management.  Enhance your support by joining a weight loss or a natural detox program. Social support will provide encouragement and keep you accountable to your health management goals. Finding the method of weight loss that’s right for you will likely take time and a reset of your lifestyle. It will require patience and commitment. To keep you motivated, set goals and keep track of the foods you are eating by writing it down in a food journal. Practising mindfulness-based movement such as yoga and pairing it with meditation techniques will help manage stress and improve your focus, ensuring you don’t sabotage your weight loss efforts.

Yoga Retreats Koh Samui

You don’t need all the latest yoga fashions to feel at home during yoga vacations. The emphasis is on comfort, not style!

This is what you’ll need to pack:

  • Light, layering clothing – think yoga pants
  • A journal
  • A warm pullover or jacket
  • A reusable water bottle
  • A backpack
  • Your own set of mala beads
  • A good book that you’ve been dying to read

You can bring your own yoga mat or towel, but most yoga resorts will have these items for hire.

What you don’t need is technology. So, leave your cell phone, laptop, and iPad at home.

Yoga Retreats Koh Samui

Every yoga retreat is unique but most of them follow the same general format. Expect to rise early and enjoy a morning yoga class, followed by a yummy yet healthy breakfast. After your morning meal, you’ll have free time until lunch and then get to enjoy a pre-arranged afternoon activity. Your last class of the day takes place in the early evening, followed by dinner and an early night. Sometimes a third yoga session takes place during the day, depending on the nature of your retreat.

Yoga Retreats Koh Samui

Getting to know yourself and enjoying the company of like-minded people is one of the main focusses on a yoga escape. In this light, you’ll enjoy your meals in a social group setting. Meals consist of fresh, organic ingredients and usually include healthy shakes, raw food, and superfoods. Energizing supplements are often included.

Yoga Retreats Koh Samui

You’ll find the best yoga retreats located in pristine natural locations surrounded by lush vegetation and beautiful seascapes. Every morning you’ll awaken to the restful sounds of birdsong, the ocean and even the sound of monkeys celebrating a new day. You’ll get to explore these lovely surroundings during your free time, which allows for restful reflection or active adventures according to your preference.

You can walk, hike and sightsee to your heart’s content, swim or take part in water sports, or explore local village markets. Anything goes as long as it makes your spirit soar.

Most yoga resorts will be within walking distance of several attractions and activities, which makes getting there so much more fun.

Extra pampering offered onsite could include:

  • Detox treatments
  • Ear candling
  • Chinese cupping sessions
  • Oil massages
  • Full body massage
  • Foot reflexology treatments
  • Teeth whitening
  • Body scrubs

You should book these in advance unless they’re included in your package. That way you can plan ahead to make the most of every minute of your stay.

Yoga Retreats Koh Samui

Apart from exploring a new place and trying out novel activities, the best part of a yoga retreat is discovering yourself. You’ll find a new sense of enlightenment that you can’t achieve in your normal day-to-day setting. It’s all about getting away from your usual habits and routines and exploring your inner self in a natural setting.

While you’re on a retreat, there are no limits to the depths of self-discovery you can explore. There’s no pressure, no expectations, and no judgment involved. That’s why it’s often best to go solo when you venture on a yoga break, although it can be fun to travel with a close friend or two.

Make no mistake, a retreat can be a challenging and exhausting experience and you’re likely to go through a huge range of emotions. However, you’ll get an abundance of support from caring teachers and fellow participants. It’s a wonderful feeling to be part of this small community of people going through the same emotions. Connections with this band of strangers form fast in these isolated, peaceful situations.

When you have a dedicated and experienced teacher focussed on you for an extended time, your yoga skills improve much quicker too. You’ll return to your regular yoga sessions with renewed vigor and understanding. To reap the maximum benefits of your escape, be sure to hold onto everything you’ve learned when you return home. You can avoid your old anxieties trying to creep up on you by making your newfound skills a part of daily life.

We spend our lives swimming in a sea. Composed of over 60% water, each of us is a living, moving lake. This reservoir is the source of our body’s health and what enables the most essential processes inside us to happen. Through water, the nutrients we need are carried to our cells and bacteria while waste is pushed out of our bodies. Water also aids the brain’s ability to make hormones and neurotransmitters, delivers oxygen all over the body, lubricates joints and keeps the digestive system and bowel working correctly. These are processes fundamental to living as energised, vibrant beings.

We know hydration is key to health and it’s clear we need to stay super hydrated every day for our systems to reach their peak health, but what fluids, other than water nourish the body and allow us to naturally detox and reset our system the way we sometimes need? The answers are in the purest liquids our society has to offer; teas, infused waters and fresh, pure juices! These libations are revitalising and major aids in skin health, optimal athletic performance, natural detox, and resetting our sometimes overwhelmed systems.

Infused Drinks

“If you are cold, tea will warm you; if you are too heated, it will cool you; If you are depressed, it will cheer you; If you are excited, it will calm you”, this quote by William Ewart Gladstone, demonstrates the benefits of one of the most consumed drinks in the world. A beverage with a very long history enlivening humans around the world.  Teas contain polyphenols and catechins like EGCG, which are bioactive components that act as antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, may protect against some cancers and can increase healthy gut bacteria. Green, oolong and black tea come from the Camellia sinensis plant, while tisanes or herbal teas are made from the leaves, seeds, fruits, flowers and roots of other plants. Tisanes can provide energy, relaxation, act as digestive aids and boost the immune system depending on the combinations of plants in the brew. Some of the best tisanes for natural health are ginger tea which is an excellent remedy for infection, stimulates circulation and soothes digestion, chamomile which is a known relaxant, sleep aid and stomach soother and peppermint, another excellent digestive aid and stress reliever.

Infused Drinks

Water is the ultimate liquid, but sometimes you need something to pep up the neutral flavour. How do you make your beverage pop without adding processed sugar and calories? Infused water is one brilliant answer. By infusing herbs and fruit, we can add nutrients and brightness while assisting our body in a natural detox. There are endless variations to infuse water, and each brings different results like detoxification, invigoration, appetite control, immune-boosting or cooling down of the body. The classic recipe is simple lemon water, the mother of all other infused waters. Lemon water is a powerhouse aiding in skin health, higher vitamin C levels and weight loss. Strawberry and kiwi infusions boost immunity and act as a digestive aid, while cucumber and citrus blends help with appetite control and digestion. Another interesting combination is water with green tea, mint, and lime, which can improve breath freshness and soothe headaches.

Infused Drinks

Fresh pressed juices hydrate and permeate your body with vitamins and minerals in a quick burst. They boost your immune system, assist with a natural detox and give your gut a break when used in place of a meal. Fortunately, as long as you have access to unprocessed foods, fruits and veggies, juicing is an easy option to add to your diet.  And since a nontoxic state is vital for your body and cellular health, ingesting juices from natural, organic fruits and vegetables will help you achieve this state. Fresh juices increase antioxidant activity in the body and green juices are especially powerful as they alkalize your body. An alkaline body is the best environment for cellular regeneration, so definitely add potent green juices to your daily routine. The key is to regain and maintain vibrant health is clear: detox, alkalize and nourish!

Did you know most Americans eat too much sugar, sodium, refined grains, and saturated fats? Rejuvenate your diet by going on a wellness retreat.  Are you wondering what the other benefits are from a detox retreat? Not to worry! In this guide, we’ll go over how a wellness retreat can improve your life.

Want to learn more? Keep reading to find out.

One of the main reasons people detox is to improve their energy levels. A detox can help clear out any waste and toxins from your body. This way, your body won’t spend so much energy processing these things. You will start to notice that you have more energy for everyday activities. During the detox, you will remove sugary and processed foods. This will help you avoid any spikes in energy and the later crashes. Instead, you will replace these things with healthier energy sources. You won’t feel so sluggish anymore. Learn more about sugar and how to work it in your diet.

What you consume can have a massive effect on how you look. For example, people’s complexions can grow dull or prone to breakouts. You might notice your hair isn’t as bright as it was before, or that your nails break. After the detox, most people report that they see a massive difference in their hair. They note that their hair is a lot softer and even shinier. The foods you eat will restore your hair.  During the detox process, you may see your skin condition worsening. Don’t worry; this is your body getting rid of the toxins.

When you detox, you will notice a radiance in your skin. This reflects the types of foods and the amount of water you’re consuming. Foods you eat during detox will have a high amount of minerals and nutrients.

Boost Your Immune System

Reset your body and improve your immune system. Your body won’t spend as much time breaking down processed foods. Instead, your body can use energy and boost the immune system. When you get rid of waste and toxins, your organs will function in an efficient manner. Nutrients will get absorbed better. Your lymphatic and immune systems will get a boost.

One of the culprits behind lousy bread is a backed-up colon. A detox will help you have fresher breath because it targets the digestive system. Your breath will become fresher over time because you won’t have a ton of toxins in your body.

Alongside the physical benefits, you’ll have mental ones as well. You may notice that you feel more focused and can think in a clearer manner. During a detox, some people will take on a yoga or meditation routine. These activities can also help with anxiety or depression.

When you detox, you will lose weight. This is an excellent way to kick off a weight loss journey. If you have always wanted to go on a weight loss journey, consider starting one with a detox retreat. At a retreat, you will learn and create new healthy habits. You will get used to drinking lots of water and eating more nutrient-dense foods. These changes will help you long term, on your journey of weight loss and healthy living. You will eat foods high in healthy fats like sardines and salmon. They have a lot of omega-3 fatty acids and essential vitamins. Vegetables like spinach, broccoli, and red peppers are high in vitamins and minerals. People tend to drink a lot of herbal tea during a detox. The herbs in the tea will boost the number of antioxidants in your body. Antioxidants help to remove toxins.

Avoid coffee and alcohol during your detox. Set a limit on both beverages when you return home.

Toxins in your body can cause skin damage. Try a detox if you want to help slow visible signs of aging. Did you know that chronic stress can also contribute to premature aging? Your body releases cortisol when you respond to a stressful event. Too much cortisol can cause breakouts. Focus on managing your stress so you can slow these effects. Some people go on a detox for this reason. They find it relaxing to focus on yoga, meditation, and eating well.

During your detox retreat, you will have blocks of free time. Take a half-hour each day to write in a notebook. You can write about your daily experience or whatever comes to mind. Being in a calmer environment will help you work through some new reflections. At home, you might not have the time or energy to journal about your life. You may gain new insights into your relationships and work.

When you head to a retreat, there are exercise classes and yoga you can try out. Having free time to try out different classes will help you find a new interest. Any form of exercise will aid weight loss and also release tension. After being at a retreat and exercising daily, you will go home feeling rejuvenated. You may even feel motivated to continue your exercises at home.

You’ve tried many things to lose weight but nothing has been effective. That’s when a friend suggests natural detox drinks. Do these drinks work though? The answer is yes. If you add them into your diet you’ll have more energy to get through your day, your skin will glow, and yes, you may lose weight.

They also taste great depending on the ingredients that you use. This is only the beginning of the benefits that you’ll get from them.  Keep reading for a complete list of how these drinks can help you, along with a few delicious recipes to get you started.

Detox drinks are a natural and effective way for you to burn off a little weight. They do this by stimulating your metabolism. If your absolute goal with the drinks is weight loss then there are a few ingredients that will work better than others. Raspberries, for example, contain ketones that fight off weight gain. Lemon coupled with water will make you feel fuller longer so you don’t eat as much.

If you’re feeling a bit bloated then you may need to give your digestion system a good flush. Detox drinks have the nutrients that your body needs to do this and they act as a laxative. To reap these benefits try adding mint or lemon to your next glass of water.

Increases Liver Function

The food and drinks you consume during the day can give your liver a run for its money. Adding in detox drinks like cucumber water to your daily routine can give it a little bit of assistance. It will filter out all the toxins from the foods and drinks you consume and leave the good nutrients behind.

There are tons of free radicals in your body that cause inflammation. This inflammation is the source of chronic diseases and all sorts of other problems in your body. Detox drinks that contain ginger or watermelon can ease this inflammation and leave you looking and feeling better.

Inflammation and free radicals will do a number on your skin. This will only get worse as you age due to the things you put in your body coupled with environmental factors. Detox drinks can help your skin look youthful for longer by freeing your body of inflammation. They also contain vitamins that will purify your skin.

Foods that are high in fat bog down your body with toxins and make you feel sluggish. Detox drinks lift the toxins from your body and take away the strain these foods put on your body. Try drinks with ingredients such as lemon, rosemary, and mint to make your mind more alert and increase your energy levels.

Toxins put a strain on your organs. They’re so focused on trying to clear the toxins out that they can’t perform their other functions as effectively. Detox drinks absorb these toxins and allow your organs to focus on what they should be doing. This gives your immune system a huge boost.

Natural Detox Drinks

Are you thinking about trying out natural detox drinks? Here are a few tasty recipes to get you started.

The orange in this drink is full of vitamin C. The carrot and ginger can help with digestion and bloating. It also contains turmeric which is great for stopping soreness after a heavy workout. To make this drink you’ll need one large carrot, two oranges, a 1/2 inch turmeric, a 1/2 inch ginger, and half a lemon.

To get started you’ll juice the carrot and the oranges. Put the juice in the blender along with the turmeric and ginger. Blend the ingredients together for about 30 seconds and then add in the lemon. Strain the mixture and then drink it at least once a day to get the best results.

If you’ve got an upset stomach then mint is the perfect thing to soothe it. It really jump-starts your digestive system. The cucumbers and lemon in this recipe are chocked full of antioxidants that your body needs as well. To make this drink you’ll need a single cucumber, around 10 mint leaves, two tablespoons of lemon juice, water, ice cubes, and lemon rings. Peel and chop the cucumber. Put them in a blender with the mint leaves and one cup of water.

Strain the pulp and then add the lemon juice. Put in a little extra water if the mixture is a bit too strong. Pour the drink into a glass and add lemon slices and mint for garnish.

If you want to improve your immune system and fight off sickness then this pomegranate juice recipe will do the trick. You will need an aloe vera leaf, 1/2 cup of chopped beetroot, 2 cups of pomegranate juice, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper powder. Peel the rind from the aloe vera leaf and throw it away. There will be a yellow layer that was under the rind. You’re going to peel that back and remove the gel. Make sure you clean the gel before you use it.

Put the pomegranate juice and beetroot in a blender and blend it. Once it’s good and combined you’ll add in the aloe vera gel. When it’s done all you have to do is sprinkle in the black pepper powder and serve.

“The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.” – Ann Wigmore

Ann Wigmore hit the nail on the head when she compared our daily fuel source as either medicine or poison. Poison – not a word that you want to associate with the food you eat. In today’s society, even the most health-conscious individual can struggle with discerning, which nutrient dense foods are safe for consumption – especially when food regulations vary tremendously based on country. In the United States alone, there are over 10,000 additives approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be used in the growing, making and preserving of foods and beverages, including many banned in the European Union. That’s scary stuff!

If maintaining a clean eating lifestyle and avoiding toxic foods is important to you, it’s crucial to stay educated about the food regulation practices in your home country, so that you can make informed decisions about what you are ingesting when you’ve returned home from one of our natural detox retreats. Let’s check out some of the standard food regulations in major countries around the world.

Amongst all the ingredient lists and nutrition facts to read over, the term “organic” may seem like merely another confusing term to discern meaning. The United States, Canada, and countries in the European Union have an organic equivalency agreement in place to ensure similar organic farming practices and allowing seamless organic food trade between the countries.

Although many food products boast an “organic” label, this can be a bit misleading. When shopping for your food, you’ll want to make sure that what you’re purchasing is certified organic and bears the label from your respective country. This label is important because it means that the food was produced using the stringent guidelines set up by the USDACOS, and the EC.

So why should you choose organic foods over non-organic foods? Generally speaking, organic foods are the product of a farming system which prohibits the use of man-made fertilisers, pesticides, irradiation, GMOs (more on those in a minute!), products produced from GMOs, growth regulators, and livestock feed additives. Non-organic foods are not held to these same standards and may grow in toxic environments. Steer clear of non-organics and try to purchase certified organic food whenever possible.

Food Regulations

What is a GMO? The Non-GMO Project, a non-profit organisation committed to educating consumers about the widespread usage of GMOs, defines a GMO as a “genetically modified organism, such as a plant, animal, microorganism, or other organisms whose genetic makeup has been modified in a laboratory using genetic engineering or transgenic technology. This process creates combinations of plant, animal, bacterial, and virus genes that don’t occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods.” The safety of GMOs in food is a widely debated topic, but if your desire is to eat clean foods that help the body naturally detox, then you’ll want to stay away from GMOs.

Presently, 64 countries around the world, including Australia and countries in the European Union, have laws that mandate that genetically modified foods be labelled. The United States recently passed legislation that will require all genetically modified products to be labelled by the year 2022. Unfortunately, Canada has yet to follow suit, with no plans in place to identify GMOs in foods. If you live in a country that does not yet require the labels, you may want to brush up on your GMO sleuthing skills to spot the biggest culprits.

Tips on Sourcing: “Clean Foods” in Your Local Community

Tip #1

Find a farmers’ market close to you and get to know your local farmer. Don’t be afraid to ask them questions about the way they grow and process their food or even ask to see a copy of their organic certification paperwork. Once you’ve developed a relationship with your local farmer, ask if you can come out to the farm and volunteer for a day. Volunteering will give you an up-close and personal look at where your food is coming from too!

Tip #2

Although farmers’ markets are an ideal place to shop for food, not everyone has easy access to one. Grocery stores are a convenient alternative, and lots of chains are now making natural foods a priority. If possible, find a grocery store that has a “locally sourced” section in the produce and meat department. If you frequent your local farmers’ market, you’ll likely see some names you recognise! For any packaged items, make sure that you’re reading the labels to avoid toxic ingredients.

Tip #3

Seasonal fruits and vegetables are fresher, tastier, and retain more nutrients than those not in season. Incorporating these seasonal foods into your diet is a great natural approach to integrate into your routine.

Tip #4

If you want to have complete control over how your food is grown, consider planting your own garden! Research the foods that do well in your natural environment and start planting from there!

Get Involved with a Like-Minded Community

Get to know like-minded people in your community that have similar values when it comes to food. Having a local or virtual community of people to connect with, encourage you, and to use as a resource in your wellness journey is an invaluable tool to living a healthy lifestyle.
