7 Easy Yoga Exercises Anyone Can Do Today
By Carson King
In the hustle and bustle of modern life, finding a moment of peace can be tricky! In attempting to connect with ourselves, we are bombarded by a whirlwind of deadlines, responsibilities, and distractions that can make our heads spin for days. We live in jungles of concrete, surrounded by veins of metallic electricity that never sleep. In all this chaos, is there escape? Well yes, with yoga!
Once we awaken to the matrix around us, we have a choice: to stay complacent in our little bubbles of comfort or dive deeper into what’s possible. If you’re reading this article, you are likely searching for some level of personal development. Thankfully, yoga exercise is helpful here. By the end of this post, you’ll be aware of the tools and exercises necessary to give your soul a chance to awaken. What a beautiful chance that is!
Let’s go over the seven easiest yoga exercises that anyone can do and how our health resort in Koh Samui, Thailand, might just be the soul-rebirthing center you never knew existed.
1. Mountain Pose (Tadasana)
The mountain’s pose is a classic and a fan-favorite pose you won’t want to miss! In this stance, you’ll ground yourself by standing tall. Keep your feet hip-width apart. As you inhale, you’ll reach for the sky, breathing in the new possibilities of a more excellent dawn. On the exhale, you’ll let it all go: the tension, the worry, the feelings of inadequacy we all have. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Under the canvas of each breath, you’ll ground yourself further into the earth’s aurora and dispel the cobwebs of negative energy that have gathered over time..
2. Child’s Pose (Balasana)
Keep your inner child alive with the almighty “child’s pose” You’ll choose a safe, comfortable place to kneel- preferably a yoga mat or carpet. As you kneel, you’ll place your forehead onto the ground. Push your arms out, extending them over your head and connecting your palms to the floor. This simple, grounding posture will surely increase your flexibility and inner peace. As you breathe, allow your worries to melt away and find space to connect with your breath.
3. Cat-Cow Pose (Marjaryasana-Bitilasana)
Cat-Cow pose is an excellent way to open up your spine and get your energy flowing. To start, you’ll place your knees and hands on the ground in a table-top position. Your hips should be directly over your knees, and your elbows directly beneath your shoulders. This creates a firm, stable base for your body. On the inhale, you’ll push your back downwards as if the ground was pulling your stomach forwards. On the exhale, you’ll push your back upwards toward the ceiling. Follow your breath, savor the fluidity of movement, and enjoy the constant wave of push-and-pull. This yoga exercise is one you’ll love forever.
4. Downward Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana)
Placing your hands and feet on the ground, you’ll push your bottom back and up, making an inverted “V” shape with the body. The heels sink into the earth as your tailbone reaches toward the sky. This outstanding pose stretches the calves and arms and opens the body to new potentials. As you play around with your ankles, testing and tasting the uniqueness of each stretch, give yourself space to be surprised at new sensations. After all, you might discover something new!
5. Warrior Pose (Virabhadrasana)
Gather your courage and settle your body into this lively pose. You’ll stand firmly, with one foot forward, and the other back. Feel your inner warrior awaken as you stretch your arms up and back, opening the front of the body. As you settle here, sink into the grace and serenity that has always been inside you. You’re stronger than you think. Doubt your doubts before you doubt yourself!
6. Bridge Pose (Setu Bandhasana)
Start by lying down on your back. Place your feet firmly on the ground, and push your hips up and outward. As you bridge between shoulders and feet (literally), you can bridge between the varying aspects of yourself: your wants, desires, needs, and goals. Don’t be afraid to make connections as they come, and be open to the possibilities. As you surrender to the inhales and exhales, sink your body more profoundly into a state of mindful reflection.
7. Corpse Pose (Savasana)
Don’t worry; there are no corpses involved in the corpse pose. With corpse pose, you completely surrender your body to gravity. While this is an easier yoga exercise, there’s plenty of room for self-reflection. As you rest, give your body the gift of total relaxation. Often, we tense and stress ourselves out without a second thought. Anxiety becomes mainstream, and we don’t realize the tightness we’ve held onto. Allow yourself to unravel gently, having faith in the infinite embrace of stillness. You are the canvas upon which the universe paints its dreams, and what a beautiful dream it is!
